Dunbar
This large scale breeding property is situated in the Gulf of Carpentaria along side Rutland Plains. The Mitchell River, forming the third largest river system in the country, flows through the northern parts of the property providing not only beautiful scenery but also crystal clear water. Prone to the wet season flooding, Dunbar has a short working season of around seven months and in that time employs a head stockman, up to 7 stockmen and women, a cook, mechanic, grader driver, fencers and various contractors.
The property lies 300km north of Normanton and 400km west of Mareeba in Queensland's north, and is in the heart of barramundi country. Dunbar comprises loamy river flats along the Mitchell, and sandy open forest country to the south. Dunbar typically runs 20,000 Brahman breeders, with the turn off heading south to the fattening properties around the Cloncurry district. There is a staff of approximately 14 people during the mustering season. The accommodation facilities are air-conditioned and modern with a staff recreation room, dedicated staff telephones and internet access.
